SOUTH BEND, Ind. --- The St. Joseph County Metro Unit asked the community on Sunday to come forward with any information on a man suspected of killing his girlfriend’s mother.

Anthony Patton Jr., 23, is a suspect on October 7 shooting at the Anderson Apartments on Anderson Avenue. Police said Tomara Agnew, 40, was shot and killed after getting into a verbal argument.

“Stay out of our way, let us do our job,” said Commander Tim Corbett, with CMHU. “If you know where he’s at tell us.”

Police said Patton Jr. is armed and dangerous. They advise the public not to approach him if they see him and just call 911.

“I knew the mother who passed away,” said Kintae Lark, an activist against violence in the community. “It’s horrible.”

Lark advocates for safety in the community inside his salon Inspiration School of Beauty and out in the streets as a ministering barber. He said violence is violence in general and the community can’t cover for dysfunction.

“Put ourselves in this families situation,” he said. “Let’s hold them in prayer and if it was you what would you do.”

Comm. Corbett said CMHU spoke to the suspect’s parents, who he called cooperative. He said Patton Jr.’s parents want him to turn himself in.

“The only way we’re going to save our young people, to save our relatives,” Lark said. “We have to intervene.”
